
Employers on hand to accept applications and offer preliminary screening.
With resumes in hand, more than 250 area residents took part in an afternoon job fair on October 19 hosted by Workforce Solutions of Providence/Cranston -an agency of the cities of Providence and Cranston. Twenty-one companies, including some of the state's largest employers, were on hand to accept those applications and to offer preliminary screening.
"This job fair is an example of the Workforce Solutions' efforts to create connections and provide support to businesses and job seekers to get our local economy moving," said Workforce Solutions Director Robert Ricci.
Workforce Solutions of Providence/ Cranston invited their 500-plus clients, who have been working with the agency in recent months, to participate in the 3-hour event, held at Roger Williams Park Casino. It was the third such event of the year, and is expected to become a quarterly event.
Among the recruiters attending were included Electric Boat, United Natural Foods Inc., Citizens Bank, Cox Communications, Microtech Staffing Group, Senesco Marine, Blount, FedEx Home Delivery, Manpower, Senior Helpers, John Fogarty Center and Chapel Grille.
Workforce Solutions is funded under the federal Workforce Investment Act, and provides job training, skills development, GED, ESL, basic- and advanced training, and remedial skills help to area unemployed. Workforce Solutions offers businesses Individual Training Accounts, with classroom instruction at state-approved training entities for entry-level skills for their employees, along with on-the-job training, screening and recruitment.
