“I am very saddened to hear of the passing of my friend, Tom Slater. My thoughts and prayers and the thoughts and prayers of our entire city are with Tom’s family. He was the embodiment of everything we hope for when we speak of public service. He was a man of extraordinary integrity and had a real passion to help others in any way he could. As long as Tom Slater was in the room, the poor, the hungry, the weak and the sick had a powerful voice at the State House. He was a champion of our seniors, child nutrition, affordable housing, health care for children, creating job opportunities, measures to comfort those with chronic diseases and so much more. He served his constituents and our city with extraordinary distinction. Tom always valued the great diversity of his neighborhood and our city. Our state and our city have lost a great man. I will personally miss his friendship, his wisdom, and his gentle kindness.”
