SUMMER LUNCH PROGRAM UNDERWAY IN PROVIDENCE

Program provides 3700 free meals to Providence children at neighborhood recreation centers

PROVIDENCEMayor David N. Cicilline today announced that the City’s Summer Food Service Program is in full swing in Providence neighborhoods.  The federal program, which is administered through the Rhode Island Department of Education, serves free breakfast and lunch to children at 36 area recreation centers, pools, water parks and community organizations.

 

“We have to do everything we can to ensure that families have the support they need to make it through these incredibly challenging economic times,” said Mayor Cicilline.  “That means keeping our children engaged in fun, safe activities during the summer months and ensuring that they have access to a healthy meal.”

 

The 1300 breakfasts and 2400 lunches will be provided to Providence children aged 18 and under, Monday through Friday, at the following locations until August 21st:
