The Museum of Natural History serves thousands of families, adults and schoolchildren each year with its unique exhibits, planetarium shows, and educational programming. Become a part of the Museum staff and help promote our vision by becoming a volunteer today! Help visitors to discover the wonders of our earth, our cultures, and our universe!

 

Volunteering opportunities:

  • Education Program Volunteer: Help the Museum’s full-time educators lead programming for school groups, girl scout programs, and afterschool programs. Experience working with children and background check required.
     

  • Family Programming/Exhibit Docent Volunteer: Lead family activities on weekends and serve as a docent in our exhibit halls. Experience working with children and background check required.
     

  • Curatorial Volunteer: Work with Museum curators to manage our extensive natural and cultural collections. Background/coursework in natural or social sciences and background check required.

 

Training Program:
A one-day training program is offered three times a year. Volunteers must complete this training session and commit to 40 hours of service during the year.

Training Schedule: August/September 2008, January 2009


Volunteering benefits:

  • Receive a free individual Museum membership for one year once 40 hours of work have been completed.

  • Receive free Museum docent t-shirt.

  • Receive invitations to special events and preview exhibit openings at the Museum.

  • Gain familiarity with the Museum’s 10,000+ specimen collection of natural and cultural artifacts.

  • Gain experience working with families and children in a unique educational setting.

 

Requirements:

  • Volunteers must submit/have a background check.

  • Volunteers must attend a volunteer training session.

  • Volunteers must commit to 40 hours of work over an agreed upon period of of time.

  • Volunteers must follow the policies and procedures of the Museum.
