Parks Department

Alix R. Ogden, Superintendent                                     David N. Cicilline, Mayor

MISSION STATEMENT

Good parks enrich a city. While there are many challenges facing the Providence park system in terms of meeting the park needs of Providence residents, Providence parks collectively provide playgrounds, athletic fields, fitness trails, community garden space, places that connect with the environment, and places for community gatherings. In short, Providence parks help to build community and shape the way we interact with each other. To ensure that parks enrich our city, the mission of the Parks Department is as follows:

To provide opportunities for recreation, education, physical fitness for individuals and families, for different age groups, and for males and females.

  • To provide clean, well-maintained, and safe park spaces.
  • To promote conservation of natural resources.
  • To be fiscally responsible.
  • To collaborate with government and private institutions to improve Providence parks.
